Hourly Rate Calculator -
E&I Electricians

This hourly rate calculator helps businesses quickly work out a fair charge-out rate for an electrical contracting and engineering business, based on the employee’s base hourly wage, statutory on-costs, leave impact on billable time, and a chosen target net profit margin.

To use it, enter the employee’s hourly pay rate and your target net profit (%), then choose whether you want profit calculated as a net margin on revenue or a markup on cost.

Next, set your assumptions for superannuation and payroll tax, and select Yes/No to include motor vehicle recovery and supervision recovery in the final rate.

The calculator will automatically show your break-even hourly cost (the minimum rate needed to cover wages, on-costs, leave-driven utilisation, and recovered overheads) and your charge-out hourly rate including profit, plus an itemised breakdown of costs per hour.

When you’re ready, use the Download PDF button to generate a professional summary you can share with customers or keep for quoting and estimating.

NOTE: The costs below apply to a business running in the commercial and heavy industrial space. Every business will be different and overheads will fluctuate over different periods of business.

Clients as well as business owners do well to review business cost regularly to understand the true cost of doing business.
